COBRA HISTORY

Cobra was started in 1983 by brothers Pete and Pat Dix. Pete was active in the business operating as President and CEO from 1983 to 2013. Pat was never active in Cobra, but worked in another jointly owned business, Dix Corporation. Cobra began as a specialized general contractor in Spokane, Washington concentrating on three distinct areas of business: projects involving complicated steel structures or large equipment, metal roofing and siding, and material sales of metal joists and decking.

In the mid 90’s Cobra made a strategic decision to consolidate its focus strictly to the commercial/industrial roofing and siding business. There appeared to be an opportunity in the market place for a professionally run business with a strong project management background. Cobra transformed into a sub-contractor with the same team that had been functioning as a general contractor for years.

In 2001, a full time Service Department was established with employees dedicated strictly to the purpose of providing superior service and responsiveness towards solving customers existing roofing and siding problems. In 2002, Cobra opened up a second branch operation in Washington’s Puget Sound, just south of Seattle.

Since the late 90’s, the Dix’s invested a great deal of time and effort to develop a successful succession plan for the company. In 2012, Cobra’s first major mark in our succession plan was completed when Travis and Eric Dix took over as sole, equal owner-operators of the corporation.

In 2012, Cobra started a branch operation just outside Dallas, Texas. Cobra’s Texas operation is focused solely on architectural sheet metal and wall systems.

In the spring of 2013, Cobra opened a branch in Boise, Idaho. This branch is performing Cobra’s full scope of building envelope services.

In the spring of 2017, Cobra opened a branch in Portland, Oregon. The Portland branch is primarily focused on commercial/industrial roofing.

Today, Cobra is nearly a full scope building envelope contractor with offices located in Spokane WA and Dallas TX and subsidiaries in Portland OR, Boise ID and Seattle WA. Cobra is still family owned and operated, and employs 250-350 people throughout the Western United States.
